Junior Technician

TechAccess is seeking a Junior Technician to join our growing installation team in delivering high-quality data centre infrastructure projects across South Africa. This hands-on role involves assisting with the installation of air-handling units (AHUs), aisle containment, and security caging solutions, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to TechAccess’s high standards. The ideal candidate is technically minded, eager to learn, comfortable using power tools, and able to work in dynamic on-site environments. Project management experience and technical certifications (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or data centre-related) will be advantageous. This position offers exceptional growth into senior technical or project-based.

Job Description

Position: Junior Technician

Reports to: Installation Team Lead / Project Manager

Type: Internship.

Role Purpose

To support TechAccess’s installation and engineering teams with the physical installation of air‑handling units, aisle containment systems, and caging solutions in data‑centre environments, contributing to safe, accurate, and efficient project delivery. 

Key Responsibilities

 1. Technical Support

• Assist in the installation of air‑handling units, including mounting, alignment, ducting support, and mechanical assembly.
• Support the build and installation of Hot/Cold Aisle Containment systems (panels, doors, roof sections, cable baskets, and fibre runners).
• Help install security caging systems, including steel frames, punched‑hole panels, fixings, and cage doors.
• Carry tools, materials, aluminium extrusions, and assist with on-site fabrication as needed.

2. Technical & Mechanical Work

• Use power tools (grinders, drills, impact drivers, riveters) safely and competently.
• Measure, mark, cut and prepare materials for containment or caging builds.
• Perform basic troubleshooting on installations and escalate technical issues to senior technicians.

3. Site Preparation & Compliance

• Assist with unpacking, staging, and pre-assembly of components before installation.
• Maintain tidy and safe work areas in accordance with TechAccess installation standards.
• Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and site-specific protocols.

4. Collaboration & Reporting

• Work closely with senior technicians, installers, and the project management team.
• Provide daily progress updates, report challenges, and assist with documenting completed work.
• Engage politely with clients on‑site and represent TechAccess professionally.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical ability.
• Comfortable working with power tools and working at heights (training provided).
• Physically fit and able to lift, carry, and manoeuvre heavy equipment.
• Willing to travel to client sites and work extended hours when required.

Advantageous (Highly Preferred)

• Technical certifications: HVAC, Electrical, Refrigeration, Mechanical, Data Centre Infrastructure, or similar.
• Exposure to project management or construction‑site coordination.
• Experience with AHU installation, HVAC systems, or metal‑based fabrication.
• Experience in data centre environments or infrastructure builds (rack installations, cabling, containment).
